Long overdue: rap anthem for discount department store Ross.
I can only hope this will be stuck in my head all day.

Did I mention that my earliest memory is dancing with her in a crib to “Chant Down Babylon”?

Legendary spoken-word artist, jazz musician, rap prototyper.
Really mythic. Nick took me to see him at the Blue Note last year, and I know it’s one of those stories I’ll recount to my grandkids one day. Listen to his music if you don’t know it. It’s usually pretty perfect.
Stream his new album here.

Summer is officially here in Philadelphia. Heat so oppressive I almost fainted in Rittenhouse Square. Humidity like a swamp. Shopping just for the sake of air conditioning. Bike rides and backyard beer drinking. Kiddie pools. And that can only mean one thing: time to crank up the stereo and get your jamz on, because it’s the only way to stay sane!
Buzzfeed has posted an amazing compilation of all the Songs of Summer since 1940, and it’s amazingly fascinating. Rock out, people!
What will the song of this summer be?

It is so good. Two of my favorite things together at last: “John Wesley Harding” and the Dirty P’s.
Download here. Now.

Must-see concert in Philly tomorrow: Pants Yell!‘s last concert ever, indiepop group Tender Trap playing one of two u.s. tour dates, and my favorite, Scott Churchman: dark + gloomy + thoroughly catchy.
See them all (+ me) at Pilam, 3914 Spruce St., Philadelphia. 8:00. $7. Yeah!
